Epic Garage Sale Weekend in Southeast Kansas [2022]

Do you remember in grade school, when two students would wear vaguely similar outfits, the teacher would ask, “Did you two call each other and plan this?” Then the unfortunately matching students would blush as the rest of the class laughed at them.

(An aside for my younger visitors: A “call” is an archaic audio-only form of simultaneous communication using a telephone. Oh, and a telephone was a tin can connected to another tin can using a long piece of string. TikTok was way different back then.)

Back to my story: That’s this weekend. There are four–count them, four–city-wide garage sales in Southeast Kansas this weekend. Arma (Crawford County), Cherryvale (Montgomery County), Columbus (Cherokee County), and Iola (Allen County) all scheduled their city-wide yard sales for this weekend!

Do you think they planned it? Regardless, we garage-salers are blessed with no fewer than one hundred sixty (yes, 160) Southeast Kansas garage sales to visit between now and Sunday.

So, let’s bury our still-painful memories of awkward elementary-school interactions with some unfettered cross-county capitalism, shall we?
